“The Model Three always sounds taut, rhythmic, and controlled, helping to connect with the music on an emotional level. I wanted to listen longer and rediscover all my old favorite pieces of music.”

– Mark Gusew, StereoNET

“Now with respect to sound quality, I’m not going to beat around the bush. Like the Model Fives, the Three’s are amazing.

They’re very much like a scaled-down version of the Five in that the midrange and treble clarity is simply off the charts and largely without equal at this price point. Enjoyable across the widest range of music genres.

There is no denying that the Model Three is another win for KLH and one that is easy for me to recommend- especially when your room and listening tastes align with its strengths.”

Stone Washed Linen grilles pair M3

MODEL THREE STONEWASH LINEN GRILLE ACCESSORY (pair)

No look compares to that of the KLH Model Three when it is dressed in the stunningly beautiful Stonewash Linen grille cloth. The acoustically transparent grille canvas perfectly complements the refined, rich mahogany finish of the Model Three. Its elegance gives this classic American loudspeaker a modern-day, retro look that turns heads. This custom order accessory ships in sets of two and is the attachment your Model Three should not stand without.

Old World Linen grilles pair M3

MODEL THREE OLD WORLD LINEN GRILLE ACCESSORY (pair)

There is nothing more visually inviting than the look of the classic Old World Linen grille cloth on a KLH Model Three. This magnetic, textured grille cloth makes a statement on both the West African Mahogany and English Walnut finish by accomplishing a mid-century modern appeal. With the cast-zinc KLH logo in the bottom corner, your Model Threes will be the focal point of your listening space while dressed in the Old World Linen grilles.

MODEL THREE  8° SLANT RISER BASE ACCESSORY (each)

The Model Three stands strong on an 8-degree slant riser base made from powder-coated 14-gauge steel. The riser base’s upward angular stance ensures the sound is directed accurately toward the listener, while the steel reinforces its notoriety as a solid and non-resonant speaker base. This base can be used for speakers of all kinds but is made perfectly for our KLH Model Three.

Everything “Old” is “New” again! Reminds me of the great acoustic suspension bookshelf speakers back in the day-EPI 100, KLH 17, Small Advent. This modern take on a classic acoustic suspension design sounds “just right” to my years. In my room they seem a bit bright in the “Hi” – neutral setting. The “Mid” setting sounds great.

These are just great speakers! I’ve now had these for around a year. I’ve played SACDs, Stream and vinyl. They do not disappoint! I’ve spent as much as 6k on speakers and they didn’t hold a candle to these. I hate that the audio industry belittles those without deep pockets but regardless for the price, I don’t know that these can be beat? If you’re a fan of bass you might wantRead more about review stating to add a sub for those lows? Im living in an apartment because of work so I don’t need to rock the house. I have turned them up a couple of times and they just produce the feed! I can’t say enough about these speakers. They are amazing. If you think spending more will result in better, you’re wrong. Aside from the fives, which I’ll be picking up a pair shortly, these will satisfy most audiophiles under 65. Those guys seam to have the ears of 13 year olds? My biggest complaint with all audiophile products is that yes, Jazz sounds great, it sounds great on every speaker I’ve ever owned. But can they do rock and Metal justice? The answer is an absolute Yes! From Opeth to Slayer and Ozzy, they do not color they do not separate like crazy high end speakers that cost over 10k! They play the source unbiased with great stage and like you remember the music. May not have enough umph for big rooms but in my small listening room they are great! Like I said these are just great speakers and the quality of build is spectacular! You will not be disappointed.

Wonderful speakers. If you’re looking at new speakers, give a listen to these.

  4. Jeffrey from Indianapolis, IN

I just began using these speakers they sound great out of the box but I’m sure they need some break in time. The finish is excellent and the stands are perfect. The look and sound is very retro perfect for me.

  5. Robert from Cana, VA

WOW!!! Thus far these have far exceeded my expectations. Looking forward to listening and enjoying them for years to come. Thank You!!!
Pros: Sound amazing right out of the box. Can’t wait to hear and enjoy them when they are broken in. Finish and craftsmanship is excellent. Supplying the stand is a wonderful addition and I hope other speaker manufacturers will take notice and follow suit. Thank You
Cons: At this point in time, none.

  6. Thorpe from Elizabeth City, NC

These are wonderful speakers. Great retro look! Pros: Sound great! Cons: None

  7. Evan from Astoria, NY

KLH Model Three- Love the fit & finish, feels solid, compared versus Monitor Audio silver 100s & B&W pair. Acoustic suspension design is legit, plays well close to back walls (a restriction of my room). Excellent range and good dynamics. Would recommend more than 50 watts RMS for this.

  8. Jeff from Sparks, NV

Very nice- So these replaced a pair of JBL 4312A Studio Monitors, can’t even remember when purchased, suffice it to say they needed replacing after kids etc. I went back and forth over the 5’s and 3’s. My living room is not that large with tile so I went with the 3’s. Very happy, they sound very good no matter what music I play from old classic to rap, and classical. Would highly recommend and other reviews mention bass response these things pound. I was also shocked by packaging Crutchfield had them packaged extremely well. Now just waiting for the break in period to see if they keep getting better. Don’t hesitate buy !!

  9. Steven from Anaheim

Only had these speakers for a short time but they sound great. Very reminiscent of speakers I had back in the day. They have a warmth to them but retain great detail and clarity. Bass is also very good in my smaller space. Was considering the Model 5 as well as the Warfedale Lintons but felt they would be too big for my room.

  10. Marcus Q

There are many outstanding speakers in the price range of this one and there are so many variables in choosing the correct speaker for the room intended. This speaker met the price and specifications of my small listening room. It is non-ported, which means it is easily to place. The fit and finish are of a very high quality, built like a fine, Swiss watch. The sound is very satisfying and significantly better than my older SVS Ultra bookshelf speakers that they’re replacing (but still keeping). The larger drivers (eight inch) do a great job of filling my room with the sound I demand. They push a lot of air, especially when appropriately powered. For a small to medium listening room, these speakers will be very difficult to beat. For a larger room, you may want to choose something different and spend some more money. With Crutchfield, if these speakers don’t meet your expectations, they will take them back, and with civil dialog.

Unboxed a few weeks ago, listening 2 to 4 hours per day (total time 40 hours +/-). Set up: Music Hall Classic turntable with Audio-Technica AT-VM95SH cartridge, Marantz NR 1200 (using Pure Direct) and upgraded RCA cords. 12 x 16 foot hardwood room with large shag rug. Set up distance/angle based on KLH speaker recommendation from manual. Ok, fun part! Looks-fantastic, they have this unbelievable vintage vibe. Sound-clean, crisp, broad and honest . I’ve been trying to build a budget quality hi-fi system for a couple years and I think I’m coming close. These speakers were going to be the budget killer, until they showed up on “open box.” That made my choice so much easier, thanks Crutchfield for this wonderful option! That said, having them now, I would be happy to pay full price. They are that special!

Been listening to these nearly non-stop since taking delivery 5 days ago. These sound great right out of the box. I was little concerned these might be overwhelming since my space is relatively small (11` x 11`, carpeted), plus a few reviews picked the Model 5 over these – but in larger spaces. I’m driving these with a Marantz PM7000N with a lower end Polk subwoofer and also a vintage Marantz 2030 receiver. With the older Marantz, the low end/midrange is sublime. With the new Marantz, overall frequency response is articulate, airy, and tight. Sound stage and separation are excellent (see Andrew Robinson’s review from April 2022 on his YouTube channel for more technical description). All genres sound excellent (FWIW I don’t listen to lot of bass-heavy music, but Lizzo’s recent album sounds tight, not overwhelming) . Build quality is top-notch and the included stands are formidable. One word that keeps coming to mind is “chewy”. Can’t wait for them to completely break in. These replaced KEF Q150s and are a definite step up (maybe two steps!). KLH Model Threes definitely recall the warm speakers of the 1970s without compromising higher frequencies.

Pros: High quality build Good value for money Great sound from the get-go

Cons: Look to the Model Five for larger spaces or add a subwoofer

  13. Don

These replaced a set of bookshelf speakers I had for a few months. The sound is astounding and reminiscent of my old Advent speakers I had in the late 60’s and 70’s. By the same maker and designer. Beautiful quality wood cabinets and finish. KLH rocked it!
